When we formulated the SheetMasque, our goal was to create a highly intentional, streamlined ingredient deck that performs beautifully on its own, but is specifically optimized to layer under LightStim devices. We focused on a curated blend of humectants, peptides, and botanicals that work in targeted synergy to help maintain the skin's integrity.

The Hydration Base: Glycerin & Hyaluronic Acid

We anchored the hydration around an intentional pairing of pharmaceutical-grade Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate (HA)—a complex sugar naturally present in our bodies, with more than 50% of it living right in our skin. But as we age, this built-in reservoir gradually depletes, which directly leads to the appearance of fine lines and a gradual loss of that supple, natural bounce.

While HA is generally responsible for bathing deeper skin cells in moisture and helping cells communicate both internally and externally, its topical behavior changes entirely depending on its molecular size. For this formula, we deliberately chose High Molecular Weight HA precisely because it remains on the surface to function as a topical shield.

Acting as a literal "molecular sponge" that holds over 100 times its weight in water, it weaves a breathable molecular mesh over the stratum corneum. This invisible barrier helps seal in deep hydration while safeguarding the surface against environmental dryness. It gives the formula its ultra-luxurious, premium slip to help visibly plump and smooth the look of texture—a protective matrix supported by 100% plant-derived Glycerin acting as a dedicated humectant.

Texture & Soothing Support: Allantoin

To refine skin texture and soothe irritation, we integrated Allantoin. Sourced naturally from comfrey leaves and roots (Symphytum officinale, an herb of the Boraginaceae family—always a fun one to spell), it carries an extensive history as an established topical counterirritant.

Allantoin functions as a mild keratolytic agent, meaning it helps gently dissolve the intercellular cement holding dull, cornified cells together to support natural desquamation (esthetician shorthand for cellular shedding). By clearing these surface cells from the stratum corneum—the skin’s outermost layer—it works to help smooth and refine the appearance of surface texture.

At the same time, it helps support the water-binding capacity of the intercellular matrix and keratin, softening the tissue from within to promote epidermal homeostasis. For skin experiencing daily stress or sensitization, it helps soothe irritation and promotes a calm environment, supporting natural epidermal recovery.

Advanced Peptide Therapy: Argireline

For targeted wrinkle prevention, we leaned into Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, widely known as Argireline. Fine lines and deeper creases around the eyes and forehead are the direct result of daily, repetitive muscle contractions (think smiling, squinting, or frowning at an email).

Argireline helps provide a precision-targeted, non-invasive alternative to Botulinum Toxin. By addressing this exact same topical mechanism in its own gentle way, it works to help relax the appearance of surface tension, minimize the look of wrinkle depth, and promote a relaxed, smooth appearance.

Environmental Defense & Radiance: Brown Algae

For environmental and oxidative protection, we looked to marine botany. Ascophyllum nodosum is a specialized brown algae harvested from the chilly coasts of Northwestern Europe, heavily researched in the academic community for its exceptionally high biological activity.

It is rich in polyphloroglucinols (incredibly potent antioxidant polyphenols), which work to help condition the skin and defend against free radical damage. This powerful skin-conditioning botanical acts as a protective shield, keeping the skin thoroughly safeguarded against environmental stressors.

Bio-Cellulose: The Second Skin

A formulation is only as effective as the material that carries it, which is why we bypassed traditional cotton for premium Bio-Cellulose. Grown through the natural fermentation of coconut rice, these ultra-fine natural cellulose fibers are softer than silk and significantly more absorbent than cotton.

They contour to the face, hugging the skin for a true second-skin effect. This close contact helps minimize trans-epidermal water loss and soothes the skin, allowing the serum to absorb into the skin.
